With a Tarantino-esque story structure, Leiber-like characterizations, Lovecraftian elements, Howardian-style verbage and a grim dollop of the Orwellian dystopia that has overtones of modern Socialist government, Through the Groaning Earth is a thought-provoking as well as an entertaining read.

Bathos, a city full of horror and mysticism, acts as the setting for some of the most harrowing tales I've read in quite some time.As a fan of Lovecraftian horror, I was drawn to this book as it featured the same element of quiet madness. Story after story, I was introduced to characters that were one way or another part of this dark city of Bathos.
Skilled writing and beautifully written descriptions were more than enough to carry the story through until the end, leaving me feeling more satisfied than usual after finishing a book.
The author has a great talent for character development; not only is he able to create real and filling characters, but also the relationships between those characters that create a sense of depth that many books lack.
The story structure is so entertaining that I'd be doing the book a disservice by not mentioning it. I followed the twists and turns of stories without question and was greatly rewarded upon finishing the book.
I highly recommend this book to any fans of Lovecraft or Cthulhu, or horror in general. Fantastic read!
