In the era of Bettie Page and big-band music, rationing and war, every person has a story. This work of fiction shows a blossoming romance between two American soldiers in a time when every tomorrow was an uncertainty.
Author Karyn Mitchell is better known as pen-name Peter Dawes for her urban-fantasy work. The flash-fiction title (below 1000 words) TO SIR, WITH LOVE is her debut outside of genre fiction.

One of my favourite time-frames in my M/M reading is WWII so I was looking forward to reading this free short. Unfortunately, at 9 pages, it's just too short to get me involved in the characters on more than just the most superficial level. Then there was the mention of (and I quote) "While other men hung pin-ups of Bettie Page,..." and my reading came to a screeching halt. Wait, Wut? Bettie Page did not begin her "pin-up"/modelling career until 1950, 5 years after the end of WWII. (And yes, I realize that I know entirely too much about Ms. Page). The author, perhaps, meant Betty Grable, who was a WWII pinup.
Anyway, I was totally thrown out of the story and, because of its brevity, never had the time to get back into it before it was over.

To Sir With Love edition by Karyn Mitchell Peter Dawes Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
The story was alright, but very short. It's about finding love during world war two,for two young recruits, and learning what gay was all about.
Short story that leaves you wanting more. Easy read. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author. Plus it was free to my kindle!
I found myself yearning for more and yet somehow satisfied with the brevity of this story. I believe that is the magic of a short story. Kudos to the author. Definitely worth a read!
This looks more like a draft than something finished.
When going for something so brief every word must have beauty and meaning, every sentence must convey atmosphere and characterization. It is not the case here. It is not horrible, but it is not interesting.
The story, "To Sir With Love," is a nice romantic love story. It is understandable why Matty will not take the risk on being seen with his love. When one is in the closet, there is MUCH fear, especially for one's life, for coming out. On the other hand, it makes sense that Will wants Matty to come out with him. Even though it was a really short story, I enjoyed it. I'm not into battle stories involving the military, but it was good story. However, I did not like that Matty was 19 and his love was older. Matty's age is kind of young to be that much in love.
The story, "Eyes of the Seer," which is included with the story, "To Sir With Love," is okay. I think it is normal to want vengeance on a lover for cheating on the observer. Not everyone wants vengeance, though. Some people move on while forgetting about their former lover. Others give forgiveness, but they may or may not continue to be involved with their lover. I think murder is a drastic measure because it is the ending of one or more lives. However, not everyone can think clearly when they're that angry at being cheated on. As for the vampire entry, I wasn't expecting that. I try to stay away from vampire and werewolf stories because they tend to give me nightmares. But there are times when I break that rule. Then I end up with a nightmare afterwards. As the biting included in the story, I was thinking the guy was being attacked by a dog. This isn't the best story, but it is okay. I'm not sure if I will read another story by this author again.
The story felt like a wistful memory, intimate and quiet. Like a memory, it's short, fleeting in its nature but packed full with emotions that bring the past back and make it come alive. Yes, it leaves much unsaid - it's just a glimpse in the fate of two men and one love. But it didn't need any more words than it has to make my eyes water.
Wanted so much more. If you read it you know exactly what I'm talking about. And you would ask yourselves the same questions. -Ricanlunap
